WELCOME

The Alternative Library - Art Place Leirion is pleased to invite you to the 2nd International Model United Nations Conference Leirion which will take place in Athens, Greece on May 20-22, 2022 at the premises of the Contemporary Hotel Domotel Kastri

LEIRION-MUN is an educational activity that started as an idea in January 2021 and was brought to life last October with the 1st International Conference. For the first time in Greece, the conference managed to bridge the school and university MUN communities, bringing together students from 15 countries around the world, under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance. Our conference was supported by an excellent team of academics and experts from the best universities of Greece and abroad; it was a conference that laid the foundations for a new path in the field of the Model United Nations.

The 2nd Leirion MUN is going to be held under the central theme of “Politics and Ethics in the Digital Space”. In order to emphasize in the Ethics of Human Coexistence in the Digital Age and especially the Ethics of the Politics we will choose for the coming decades, young people are invited to participate in special committees of the UN by practicing the role of diplomats. Taking as a starting point for thought the wise words of Socrates "A life where right or wrong is not examined is not worth living" and bearing in mind Nietzsche's famous saying "Ethics is the most effective mechanism for dragging humanity by the nose”, Leirion invites you to become sun rays. With your ideas, your critical thinking, and the solutions you propose, we are inviting you to illuminate the shadows of humanity. Let us have Socrates as our foundation stone and not be frightened by the oscillation caused by Nietzsche’s words. The power youth have within them and the intention to create a new world is incredible. Let’s not try to fix what the ones before us did wrong: let’s design new paths and everyone will follow...

Before the beginning of the Committee work, students will participate in an interactive Workshop with a Guest Expert upon the topic at hand. Throughout the 3 days of the conference, the young Delegates will be invited to collaborate in resolving the issue of their committee as well as to face unexpected challenges. Through this process, young people can expand their knowledge upon current crucial issues as well as cultivate their negotiation, public speaking, and critical thinking skills.

The research that will be conducted by the selected Committee Presidencies, in order to prepare the participants, will be supervised by academics and specialists of Secondary and Higher Education.

Let us come together to share our thoughts, our ideas, and propose solutions.

We look forward to welcoming you all in Athens this May!

Best regards,

Anna Pani Kousiori, Conference Director

Niki Paraskevopoulou, Conference Manager

WHO ARE WE?
LEIRION

Leirion is an alternative library, an art place. It was founded in 2017 with a passion and a vision for books, art and innovative educational methods to be more widely spread and promoted.

Our philosophy is that every individual should have access to quality educational programs as well as discover the book through alternative paths.

Our home is sensitive to social matters such as unaccompanied refugee minors, abused women, abandoned children in maternity hospitals.
