George Markatis

George Markatis was born on 29 August 1998 in Corfu, Greece. He is a Greek national and currently serves as an active officer of the Hellenic Police.

Since October 2019, he has been serving in the Hellenic Police under the Ministry of Citizen Protection. He is assigned to the Hellenic Police Headquarters in Athens, within the Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, specifically in the Sub-Directorate for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Goods.

Since May 2025, he has been an unpaid scientific associate of the Scientific Association of Lawyers “Oi Poinikologoi” and of the criminal lawyer and Secretary General of the association, Konstantinos Ch. Gogos. Since 2023, he has also been a member of the Economic Chamber of Greece.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (2018–2022), graduating with the grade “Very Good”. Since March 2023, he has been an undergraduate student at the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He has completed several postgraduate programs, including:

  • MSc “Information and Communication Technologies – Law and Policy”, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2022–2024) – Grade: Very Good

  • MSc “History, Sociology and Philosophy of Law”, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2023–2024) – Grade: Very Good

  • MSc “Legal Theory and Interdisciplinary Legal Studies”, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2023–2025) – Grade: Excellent

Since October 2024, he has been pursuing postgraduate studies in Bioethics at the University of Crete and in International and European Law and Governance (specialization in European Criminal Law and Policy) at Panteion University.

Since June 2025, he has been a PhD Candidate in Constitutional Law (Public Law) at the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens under the supervision of Assistant Professor Nikolaos Simantiras.

He has completed internships at the Hellenic Parliament (2021–2022) and the National Bioethics and Technoethics Commission of Greece (2023). He has also attended certified training programs of the National Centre for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA), including programs on minor victims in criminal justice and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

Additionally, he has participated in numerous academic seminars and conferences on law, public governance, human rights, artificial intelligence, bioethics and cybersecurity, including events organized by Panteion University, the Centre for European Constitutional Law (Tsatsos Foundation), and the European Laboratory for Bioethics, Technoethics and Law.

He holds certifications in Data Protection Officer (DPO) training and GDPR compliance and Cybercrime and Cybersecurity from the Lifelong Learning Centre of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

His language skills include English (C2), elementary German, and beginner Hebrew. His interests include reading, Kyokushin karate, classical and jazz music, travel, Byzantine chant, watch repair, and foreign languages.
